Summertime and the living is easy, right? Everyone starts moving a little slower and taking a bit of a rest from hard work. Everyone, that is, but for the blossoming young (or young-at-heart) writer. For us, summer is just a reminder that the year is halfway through and we’re nowhere near what we thought our wordcount would be by now. Gone are the delusions of hitting one million words this year (though that delusion will reappear come next January) and a tempered satisfaction with the fraction completed appears.
Perhaps now is the time to share some pieces that are near fruition and others that can use a bit of development. Enter the Fiction Oven, a new community built around the idea that writers (and readers) ought not to struggle in the dark, but improve and grow their craft by opening themselves up to comments and encouragement, as well as the benefits of creating a network of likeminded individuals.
There won’t be any rules beyond common sense and mutual respect. All are welcome to participate, either in sharing their writing or providing feedback (both would be fantastic!).
If you think that you might wish to share something you’ve been working on, whether it is a (near-) complete short story or a chapter of your (un-) finished novel, by all means feel free to jump right in. Just send a quick email to me (brentstephensmith@gmail.com) and I’ll get you set up as a contributor (and even add your personal blog/site to the blogroll if you like). That’s it, there won’t even be a test involved (I swear!). All genres and styles welcome.
